UN-Habitat Executive Director: Over 2 billion people globally still lack access to safe drinking water
Baku, May 19, AZERTAC
“Over 2 billion people around the world do not have access to safe drinking water. At the same time, a very large number of people also lack proper sanitation,” said Anacláudia Rossbach, Executive Director of UN-Habitat, at the dialogue session titled “The Global Housing Crisis: What is the Plan?” held as part of the 13th Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13).
“We know that the global population will grow by 2050. Two billion people are moving to and around cities, especially in Asia and Africa. Half of global development and growth is concentrated in urban areas. This is not a gradual shift—it is the fastest urbanization process,” the Executive Director emphasized.
