President of Kenya: UN reforms are essential for its continued existence

“The first World Urban Forum was held in Nairobi, Kenya, in 2002. Last month, we once again convened the Africa Urban Forum in Nairobi. Today, we are gathered in Baku, in this remarkable country, for the 13th World Urban Forum. I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to President Ilham Aliyev for his hospitality,” said President of Kenya William Samoei Ruto in his address at the WUF13 Leaders Summit.
The Kenyan President described the forum as results-oriented, noting that housing is a challenge in nearly every country. He stressed that UN reforms, justice, and greater representation—especially for Africa in the Security Council—are essential to address global challenges and ensure the organization’s effectiveness.
He emphasized that the Baku event offers an important opportunity to explore ways of making future cities more livable, sustainable, and resilient for everyone.
