Deputy Minister: Baku Continuity Coalition serves to bridge urban planning and climate actions
Baku, May 19, AZERTAC
“Bringing the Baku Continuity Coalition on Urban Climate Action and Sustainable Urbanisation to the WUF platform for the first time ensures that the political will formed during negotiations is translated into municipal-level action, housing strategies, and local climate finance,” stated Yalchin Rafiyev, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, during the high-level meeting of the Baku Continuity Coalition on Urban Climate Action and Sustainable Urbanisation held on the sidelines of the 13th Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku.
He highlighted the historical significance of the event and noted that for many years, those discussing climate agreements at COP conferences and leaders focusing on urban planning at World Urban Forums had operated separately, “as if in parallel universes.”
According to the Deputy Minister, the Baku Continuity Coalition emerged precisely from the need to bring these two areas together.
