Elchin Yusubov: Around 76,000 mines and unexploded ordnance found in Khankendi, Khojaly, and Aghdara since 2023
Baku, May 19, AZERTAC
“As in other liberated territories, mine contamination remains the primary obstacle to the progress and intensity of ongoing activities in Khankendi, Khojaly, and Aghdara. The occupying forces left the areas heavily polluted with mines and unexploded ordnance,” said Elchin Yusubov, the President’s Special Representative for Khankendi and the Aghdara and Khojaly districts, in his remarks at an event held at the Azerbaijani Pavilion held as part of WUF13.
He noted that since 2023, about 76,000 mines and unexploded ordnance have been detected and neutralized, noting that this is only a fraction of the overall contamination. Yusubov emphasized that available data and observations suggest demining efforts will continue for many years to come.
