On May 19, Speaker of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova met with Igor Sergeyenko, Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus.
The Belarusian Chairman first familiarized himself with the plenary session hall of the Milli Majlis. A one-on-one meeting was then held between the parties.
Afterwards, the Belarusian delegation visited the Memorial Hall named after National Leader Heydar Aliyev, where they viewed exhibits reflecting different periods of the life of National Leader of the Azerbaijani people Heydar Aliyev. The Chairman signed the guest book there.
This was followed by an expanded meeting between the two sides.
Sahiba Gafarova emphasized the important role of high-level relations between the heads of state of the two countries in developing bilateral ties. She noted that reciprocal visits at the highest level and the documents signed ensure the further deepening of relations. It was also highlighted that the two countries successfully cooperate within international organizations and provide mutual support on a number of issues.
During the conversation, the sides hailed the current level of interparliamentary relations, which constitute an important part of interstate relations. It was emphasized that the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation signed between the parliaments has made a significant contribution to the development of ties between the legislative bodies.
