Anar Guliyev: Azerbaijan implementing one of the most extensive and comprehensive reconstruction programs in the region’s recent history
Baku, May 19, AZERTAC
“Azerbaijan has been implementing one of the most extensive and comprehensive reconstruction programs in the region’s recent history over the past five-plus years,” said Anar Guliyev, National Coordinator for the 13th Session of the United Nations World Urban Forum (WUF13) and Chairman of the State Committee on Urban Planning and Architecture, at the event titled “Cities at the heart of connectivity: Urban reconstruction and regional cooperation,” held within the framework of WUF13.
He noted that during the occupation period, approximately 20 percent of Azerbaijan’s internationally recognized territories remained under occupation, during which hundreds of cities, settlements, and villages were destroyed, vital infrastructure was ruined, and significant damage was inflicted on cultural heritage.
The Committee Chairman stated that after the liberation of the territories, Azerbaijan entered a new phase and began activities focused on reconstruction, integration, and sustainable regional development.
Anar Guliyev emphasized that the liberated territories have been declared a green energy zone, noting that the region has significant potential in hydropower, solar, and wind energy.
