Baku, May 19, AZERTAC
"As the host country of COP29 two years ago, Azerbaijan placed urbanization and cities at the center of the global climate agenda. We understand that while cities significantly impact global emissions, they are simultaneously one of the primary sources of innovation, resilience, and solutions against the climate crisis," said the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jeyhun Bayramov, during his speech at the event themed “Cities at the heart of connectivity: Urban reconstruction and regional cooperation
– How can urban reconstruction turn cities into engines of regional connectivity and shared prosperity?” held as part of the 13th Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13).
According to the Minister, situated at the crossroads of East and West, North and South, Azerbaijan has successfully transformed its geographical location into a strategic advantage.
"We now see our role not merely as a transit country, but as a hub for regional integration, sustainable urban development, and interregional cooperation," he stated.
Jeyhun Bayramov emphasized that Azerbaijan's experience demonstrates that transport connectivity and urban planning processes are closely intertwined.
"Modern transport corridors directly influence settlement patterns, industrial development, and economic activity," the Minister pointed out.
