South African Minister: Azerbaijan can play a major role in contributing to the global urban agenda for building resilient cities

“It is a great pleasure for the Republic of South Africa to participate in the 13th Session of the World Urban Forum in Azerbaijan. We believe that Azerbaijan can play a very important role in contributing to the global urban agenda for building sustainable cities, addressing climate change, and exploring the development needed by our communities,” Minister of Human Settlements in the Republic of South Africa Thembisile Simelane told journalists.
She emphasized that South Africa is advancing efforts to build climate-resilient cities through international cooperation and exchange programs, while also exploring blended financing mechanisms. She noted that current priorities include upgrading informal settlements and supporting vulnerable groups, particularly women, children, and youth, to ensure sustainable livelihoods and greater economic participation.
