CICA SUMMIT ADOPTS FINAL DECLARATION
Istanbul, June 9 (AZERTAC). The third summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA) has culminated in the adoption of a final declaration.
In the document, the participants reaffirm loyalty to respect for territorial integrity and sovereignty of countries in interstate relations.
It goes on to say separatism pose a very big threat to the principles of stability, security, independence, territorial integrity of states and inviolability of borders.
The member states also affirmed they would not allow separatist movements to use their territories and establish any relations with them.
The declaration says direct and indirect use of threat and force in resolution of problems poses threat territorial integrity and sovereignty of states, as well as regional and international peace.
“We recognize that the current global scenario presents great challenges in the areas of peace, stability and security, economic and social development, environment and culture,” according to the document.
Member states expressed concern over the current developments in the Middle East, urging all sides to act in line with UN resolutions for a lasting and sustainable environment for peace.
The declaration stresses the importance of security on energy and notes that sources of clean energy should be developed.
The member states called for international efforts to help Afghanistan become a self-sufficient economy, and protect its territorial integrity, independence and unity.
The participants of the summit strongly condemned terrorism and considered acts of terrorism as a threat to international peace and security. “We believe that terrorism does not have a link with any religion, nation, civilization or ethnical group.”
The declaration also affirmed loyalty to disarmament and use of nuclear energy for peaceful means.
The declaration also underlined the necessity of fighting drug trafficking and an active cooperation against organized crimes.
The next meeting of CICA foreign ministers will be held in 2012, while the fourth summit of CICA heads of state and government is slated for 2014.
