Baku-hosted WUF13 features panel session on Climate and Housing Resilience from Gender Perspective
Baku, May 18, AZERTAC
A panel session entitled “Climate and Housing Sustainability from Gender Perspective” was held as part of the 13th World Urban Forum (WUF13).
Hosted in a special NGO pavilion, the event gathered international and regional experts in policy, architecture, urban planning, environmental management, and community resilience.
Addressing the panel session, speakers highlighted that climate change is increasingly impacting cities and communities unevenly, with women and girls—especially in rapidly urbanizing and vulnerable areas—being disproportionately affected by housing challenges, environmental risks, and limited resources. They also emphasized the essential role of women in advancing sustainable development and community-based solutions, highlighting the need to integrate a gender perspective into climate and housing policies and adopt inclusive, gender-sensitive approaches to urban resilience.
At the same time, climate risks and housing challenges were discussed, with emphasis placed on the importance of addressing women’s needs in urban planning and housing policies. It was stated that strengthening women’s leadership in building sustainable communities should be a key priority in future policy directions.
