CASPIAN NATIONS AGREE MAIN PRINCIPLES OF DRAFT AGREEMENT ON CASPIAN SECURITY
Baku, March 13 (AZERTAC). “The major part of the draft agreement on the security in the Caspian Sea has been agreed. While there are some points unagreed, the parties` positions on them are very close,” said Deputy Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Khalaf Khalafov at a news conference following discussions on the draft agreement on “interaction to ensure security in the Caspian sea through frontier, customs and interior bodies”. Deputy Minister expressed hope the parties will come to a final agreement at the next meeting.
The meeting aimed at outlining mechanisms for cooperation of respective structures from Caspian littoral states in order to ensure security in the Caspian sea.
Attending the meeting, deputies foreign minister and authorized representatives from respective structures discussed fight against crime, illegal drugs turnover, trafficking in human beings and smuggling.
“Representatives from all countries think the Baku meeting was effective. The main thing is that there is a will to make the Caspian - the sea of peace and stability,” said Khalafov.
According to the Deputy Minister, the parties will continue their dialogue through correspondence prior to the next meeting.
