Bulbul - founder of Azerbaijan’s professional vocal art

The world of classic music treasury contains names of a number of Azerbaijani composers and singers.
Famous singer Bulbul – Murtuza Mammadov (1897-1961), who is the founder of Azerbaijan's professional vocal art, professor, public figure, left an indelible mark on the history of Azerbaijan's music culture with his multifaceted activities.
Having graduated from the Milan Conservatory in 1931, this opera tenor made performances at numerous concerts venues around the world.
Bulbul was a great personality, a great master, the founder of Azerbaijan’s professional vocal art.
The folk songs, mughams, classical opera roles that he sang form the golden fund of Azerbaijani music.
He was a truly national singer, a national khanande, a national master.
Bulbul promoted Azerbaijani music in the Soviet Union and beyond. His name is dear to each and every Azerbaijani citizen.
There is an avenue named after him in Baku. Bulbul house museum was established in Shusha in 1982 and in Baku in 1983. A music school that bears his name has been in operation for many years.
In 1997, in accordance with Order of national leader Heydar Aliyev, a special plan to mark the 100th birthday anniversary of Bulbul on state level was prepared and implemented. The international competition named after Bulbul has been held since then and its participants are among the guests today.
In August 2021, the House-Museum of People's Artist Bulbul, who made a great contribution to the development of Azerbaijani music culture and played an important role in the formation and evolution of the professional vocal school, was opened in the city of Shusha after restoration.
