Azerbaijan`s membership in UN Security Council is source of pride for Iraq, Humam Hamoody
Baku, January 19 (AZERTAC). “We are proud of Azerbaijan`s election as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council and Iraqi parliamentarians are interested in close cooperation with their Azerbaijani counterparts within international organizations,” said chief of Iraq`s parliamentary Committee on Foreign Relations Humam Hamoody in the meeting with the members of Azerbaijan`s parliamentary delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
Head of the Azerbaijani delegation to the Organization Govhar Bakhshaliyeva pointed out historical relations between the two countries contribute to the comprehensive development of cooperation. According to her, Azerbaijan has always supported Iraq in the international organizations and is interested in boosting ties with this country. She expressed hope that the Iraqi parliamentarians` visit would be `useful` in terms of expansion of relations in all spheres.
In turn, Hamoody hailed Azerbaijan`s activity in the international organizations. He congratulated Azerbaijan on its election as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council and underlined that Iraq pays great importance to the cooperation with the leading nation in the South Caucasus. The Iraqi official expressed hope for the soonest settlement of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
