AZERI DEPUTY FM VISITS MEXICO
Baku, November 10 (AZERTAC). Azerbaijan`s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Araz Azimov has paid a working trip to the United Mexican States.
According to Azerbaijan`s embassy to Mexico, the Deputy Minister held meetings with Pablo Macedo, Director General of the United Nations Department at the Foreign Ministry and Deputy Foreign Minister Lourdes Aranda.
The talks focused on prospects for bilateral relations, mutual information exchange, energy cooperation and fight against regional security, transnational crime, illegal transportation of drugs and human trafficking.
During the meetings Azimov informed the Mexican officials on the history of the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh and ongoing negotiations to solve it.
Azimov blamed Armenia`s non-constructive stance, which, he said, contradicts international legal norms and principles, for impeding the settlement of the conflict and establishment of peace in the region.
Following the talks Azimov made a presentation entitled “Azerbaijan and regional security” at a conference hall of the Foreign Affairs Ministry. The event brought together ambassadors of foreign countries in Mexico, including Turkey, Russia, Ukraine, Serbia and Bulgaria, as well as heads of diplomatic corps and students at Mexican Diplomatic University.
Azimov highlighted Azerbaijan`s energy, economic and regional policy priorities, the country`s international cooperation in combating terrorism and illegal drugs trafficking, as well as Armenia`s aggression against Azerbaijan.
Azerbaijan`s ambassador to Mexico Ilgar Mukhtarov was among participants at the event.
During the Mexico trip Azimov also gave interviews to Reforma newspaper and Mexico Al Dia TV channel.
The visit also saw the Azeri Deputy FM attend official opening of Azerbaijan`s embassy in the United Mexican States, which brought together heads of diplomatic corps in Mexico, officials of the country`s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as representatives of Azerbaijani, Turkish and Russian diasporas.
