Azerbaijani, Turkish parliament eye further cooperation in Baku

Speaker of the Azerbaijani Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova has met with a Turkish delegation led by Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye Numan Kurtulmus.
Prior to the extended meeting, the parliament speakers held a one-on-one meeting. Then, the Turkish Speaker viewed the exhibits in the memorial hall and signed a guest book.
Sahiba Gafarova congratulated the Speaker of the Turkish Grand National Assembly on his election to this position.
Gafarova noted the important role of personal and friendly relations between the presidents of Azerbaijan and Türkiye in elevating Azerbaijan-Türkiye brotherhood, unity and strategic alliance to the present level.
The Azerbaijani Speaker emphasized that the legislative bodies of Azerbaijan and Türkiye successfully cooperate both in a bilateral format and within international organizations.
Gafarova expressed confidence that the agreement on cooperation signed between the Azerbaijan`s Milli Majlis and the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye in April this year would contribute to further expansion of inter-parliamentary cooperation.
The Turkish Speaker was briefed about the progress of peace process and ongoing reconstruction works in the liberated territories of Azerbaijan.
Expressing his satisfaction with his first visit to Azerbaijan as the Speaker of the Turkish Grand National Assembly, Numan Kurtulmus highlighted that the brotherly people and state of Azerbaijan are living in an important historical period. He underlined that Azerbaijan's liberation of its lands from 30 years of occupation is a historical victory and an indicator of the country’s strength in the South Caucasus region.
Kurtulmus stressed that today Türkiye is moving towards important goals and has made great progress during 100 years. The Speaker of the Turkish Parliament highly appreciated the fraternal support of the state and people of Azerbaijan during the earthquake that occurred in Türkiye in February this year.
The sides also discussed other issues of mutual interest.
