Baku, August 13, AZERTAC
The Western Azerbaijan Community has issued a statement in relation to the continuous and ludicrous expressions about Azerbaijan such as “starvation”, “ethnic cleansing” and “genocide” by Edmon Marukyan, who once wanted to become the Armenian prime minister after the Patriotic War, got only 1 percent of the votes in the 2021 elections, organized an “impressive” one-man campaign against Azerbaijan in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe of the same year, and then became ambassador of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The statement AZERTAC has received from the Community says that it is ironic that after 30 years of occupation, ethnic cleansing and expulsion of hundreds of thousands of Azerbaijanis from their ancestral homes, Armenian politicians and diplomats who used to boast of an “invincible Armenian army” are now shedding “crocodile tears” after the Patriotic War.
“We remind Edmon Marukyan that his country has been ignoring UN Security Council resolutions for 30 years, acting as if such resolutions ‘did not even exist’. It is highly hypocritical of Armenia and Edmon Marukyan in particular to rely on the mercy of the Security Council now.
The Western Azerbaijani Community reminds Edmon Marukyan that he should not make statements that target the sovereignty and territorial integrity of another country and undermine the process of negotiations. On the contrary, he should deal with issues related to his country and therefore encourage Iravan officials to maintain a dialogue with the Community for the return of Western Azerbaijanis to Armenia.”
