4th SESSION OF UN SPECA PROGRAMME HELD IN BISHKEK
Baku, 18 November (AZERTAC). The United Nations Special Programme for the Economies of Central Asia (SPECA) convened its fourth session in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.
Azerbaijan was represented in the event by minister for economic development Shahin Mustafayev and deputy foreign minister Mahmud Mammadguliyev as national coordinator and deputy national coordinator respectively.
The session participants assessed activities of the Programme in 2007-2009 and determined priorities for 2010-2011.
The event also focused on impact of global economic crisis on member countries of the Programme.
The participants praised an initiative of the Azerbaijani side to create a Road Map on Support to Trade in order to reduce the impact of the global economic crisis on member nations.
SPECA was launched in 1998 to strengthen subregional cooperation in Central Asia and its integration into the world economy. The member countries of SPECA are Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
The United Nations Economic Commission for Europe and United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific jointly provide overall support to the activities under this programme.
