PRESIDENT ILHAM ALIYEV PRESIDES OVER MEETING OF CABINET ON SOCIO-ECONOMIC RESULTS OF 2006 AND TASKS SET FOR 2007

A meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Azerbaijan Republic presided over by President Ilham Aliyev to discuss socio-economic results of 2006 and the tasks set for 2007 took place on 22 January.
In his opening remarks, the President highlighted the great economic progress achieved in Azerbaijan in the last year, intensive growth of industrial production, and successful realization of large-scale projects. “Social welfare programs continued, and incomes of population increased in 2006” he said. He also noted that important steps forward were taken to ensure the country’s energy security.
The President dwelt on the work done in the areas of education, healthcare and culture, noting the reforms in these areas will be continued. President Aliyev described in detail the tasks to be solved in all fields to provide further strengthening of the country and better life for the people.
Minister of Finance Samir Sharifov, Minister of Economic Development Heydar Babayev, Minister of Taxes Fazil Mammadov, the Minister of Labor and Social Security of Population Fizuli Alakbarov, Chairman of the State Customs Committee Aydin Aliyev, Chairman of the State Social Security Fund Salim Muslimov delivered reports on the work done in the last year, and made near-term forecasts.
