PRESIDENT ILHAM ALIYEV VISITS SALYAN PROVINCE
Informing the Head of State on the course of the works, Minister of Youth and Sport Azad Rahimov said the AZN3 mln -project begun by the construction company “Nurgun” in September 2005 is expected to be completed by the next June. The Olympic Complex, according to him, will encompass palace of sport, swimming pool, hotel, cottages, volleyball ground, tennis-court, small football ground and other facilities.
The Minister mentioned ten Olympic Complexes have been commissioned so far in the republic adding Olympic complexes construction works are currently underway in three other provinces Agdam, Kazakh and Gusar, adding the total number of them will reach 40 by the end of 2008.
President Ilham Aliyev pointed out the importance of Olympic Complex’s meeting international standards.

President Ilham Aliyev attended a ceremony of laying a foundation stone for a 220MW capacity subsidiary power plant.
Accompanying the President Head of the joint stock company “Azerenergy” Etibar Pirverdiyev let him know that construction of the plant to provide electricity to Salyan, Neftchala, Bilasuvar, Jalilabad and Masally provinces, will be funded by the Export Development Bank of Iran, and carried out by the company “Azenco”. The Head of “Azerenergy” added that “Azenco” is going to involve local specialists and workers in the construction, which he said will be completed next year.
President Ilham Aliyev pointed out the importance of the power plant as it will fully satisfy the whole region’s electricity needs.
The Head of State placed a time capsule into the foundation and filled it liquid concrete.

President Ilham Aliyev also attended a ceremony of opening the Heydar Aliyev Park and a monument erected here to the national leader of the Azerbaijani people.
After the head of state unveiled the 5 meters high bronze monument, he and first lady Mrs. Mehriban Aliyeva laid wreaths at it foot.
Then, the President and the first lady toured the park.

President Ilham Aliyev attended a ceremony of inauguration of the Heydar Aliyev Museum in the Heydar Aliyev Park.
The President cut the ribbon symbolizing the opening of the museum, which contains the bust of the national leader, as well as many exhibits and photographs reflecting his childhood and youth, his visits to Salyan in 1970s, 1980s and 1990s; the period when he led Azerbaijan; signing of the “Contract of the Century” and implementation of the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline project.
President Ilham Aliyev and his wife familiarized themselves with various sections of the museum.
Then, the head of state signed the museum’s memory book.

President Ilham Aliyev and first lady Mrs. Mehriban Aliyeva visited Salyan boarding school after shehid (martyr) Azer Safarov just overhauled at the expense of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation. The school has 416 pupils, including 105 orphan children.
After viewing the classrooms, computer room, dormitory and reading room, the President and his spouse expressed their satisfaction with the conditions created here.
President Ilham Aliyev pointed out that the Heydar Aliyev Foundation will continue to promote building new schools in the province.

President Ilham Aliyev and Mrs. Mehriban Aliyeva also visited the Park named after academician Zarifa Aliyeva, where they laid flowers beneath her bust.

President Ilham Aliyev and first lady Mrs. Mehriban Aliyeva attended a ceremony of opening the dairy factory in Salyan.
The President was informed here that the factory, which had been created thanks to the loan granted by the JV “Agrocredit” and financial support of the World Bank, produces 30 tons of ten sorts of milk a day, and employs 50 people.
President Ilham Aliyev stressed that the work being carried out within the State Program on socio-economic development of regions, help eliminate unemployment, and that support to create such facilities and develop entrepreneurship will be further provided.
