AZERI MEMBERS OF PARLIAMENT MEET WITH PACE RAPPORTEUR FOR SOUTH CAUCASUS
Chairwoman of the Parliament’s Standing Committee on Human Rights Rabiyyat Aslanova spoke of the work done to protect women’s rights in Azerbaijan
She said, today Azerbaijani women are well represented in all sectors of the country, including the Parliament, executive and judicial structures, and business sector.
Rabiyyat Aslanova added that, however, Azerbaijani women are still facing challenges, which she said will be gradually solved.
Mrs. Vera Oskina, who is visiting Azerbaijan as part of her South Caucasus trip, noted the main goal of her visit is to prepare a report on situation of women in the region’s countries.
Mrs. Oskina said she had already met with a number of Azerbaijani officials and visited local women’s correctional facilities, where she was satisfied with the situation.
Mrs. Oskina said she will put these facts in her report, which she is going to present at PACE summer session.
Afterward, Chairman of the Parliament’s Standing Commission on Social Policy Hadi Rajabli, Deputy Chairwoman of the Parliament’s Standing Commission on Foreign Affairs and Inter-Parliamentary Relations Gultakin Hajiyeva, members of Parliament Malahat Hasanova and Elmira Akhundova addressed the meeting on protection of women’s and children’s rights in the country, and the problems caused by the Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, including plight of Azerbaijani refugees and IDPs forced to flee their homelands because of Armenia’s invasion.
The sides also discussed a number of other issues of mutual interest.
