EUROPEAN COMMITTEE DISCUSS ROLE OF AZERBAIJAN`S CIVIL SOCIETY IN ENP
Baku, November 23 (AZERTAC). A delegation of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) has today visited the Confederation of Azerbaijan Trade Unions to discuss here the opinion of the EESC on “Civil society involvement in implementing the ENP Action Plans in the countries of the Southern Caucasus”.
Rapporteur for the Opinion, Secretary of the international affairs of the Polish “Solidarnost” Trade Union Andrzej Adamczyk told sections of the opinion concerning trade unions in Azerbaijan, Georgia and Armenia. He said, “trade unions in the three countries of the Southern Caucasus
are very different from one another, which to a large extent stems from the fact that they operate in different economic, social and political conditions”
The section of the opinion concerning Azerbaijan says, “state authorities in Azerbaijan has devoted considerable attention to social dialogue and to ensuring social harmony. The trade unions, which support this policy, wish to achieve as much as possible for workers, while not entering into severe conflicts and avoiding any risk to national unity. This has given rise to a specific corporate model for trade unions, particularly in the wealthiest energy sector and in the state-owned services sector. The trade unions, which enjoy relatively considerable level of independence, actively stand up for the social rights and well-being of their members. It appears to be the only possible strategy at the present time”.
Chairman of the Confederation Sattar Mehbaliyev praised the opinion of the Eropean Committtee. He briefed the delegation on the history of Azerbaijan Trade Unions and thier activity.
