COP29 discusses climate issues in interactive format
Baku, November 14, AZERTAC
A panel meeting “Future Fusion: Climate Leaders Dialogue” was arranged with the participation of guests of the plenary session themed “COP29 Business, Investment and Philanthropies Climate Platform”, held as part of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change in Baku.
In her opening remarks, Nigar Arpadarai, UN Climate Change High-Level Champion for COP29, drew the participants’ attention towards the great expectations from the private sector, especially from industrialized countries in implementing the determined climate agenda.
Furthermore, Andrew Steer, President and CEO of the Bezos Earth Fund, assumed the role of moderator, starting a rather interesting interactive game with the participants. First, he invited Alok Sharma, a member of the UK House of Lords, and Andrew Tauhert, Chief Impact Officer at XPRIZE, on stage asking them to let their imaginations run wild going back to 40 years to remember what the world was like, and the houses they had that time.
Then, Jin Ligun, President and Chair of the Board of Directors of Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, and Marco Arcelli, CEO of ACWA Power, were invited to the stage. The moderator asked them to present which projects they would invest in 2050.
Elizabeth Yee, Executive Vice President of Programs at The Rockefeller Foundation, and Alfonso Garcia Mora, Regional Vice President of International Finance Corporation, were asked what philanthropic activities they would be engaged in after a quarter of a century.
The other participants were also told to imagine what the climate would be like in 2050 and what the role of artificial intelligence could be in this field.
