KAZAKHSTAN PROPOSES TO HOLD OSCE`S SUMMIT IN ASTANA
Addressing the 17th annual OSCE Ministerial Council in Athens, Kazakh Foreign Minister Kanat Saudabayev said the proposal had been welcomed by some countries.
“We are convinced that today, ten years since the Istanbul summit, a moment has come when the top leaders should at the highest level assess current challenges for our countries and define the priorities of OSCE for the foreseeable future for the benefit of all members of our organization,” said Saudabayev.
The proposal was initiated by Kazakhstan`s President Nursultan Nazarbayev to mark the 20th anniversary of the Paris Charter for a New Europe, the 35th anniversary of the Helsinki Final Act and the 65th anniversary of the end of the World War II.
Kazakhstan formally assumed one year rotating OSCE chairmanship on January 1, succeeding Greece.
