ANAS and German Academic Exchange Service explore new avenues for scientific cooperation
Baku, September 12 (AZERTAC). Representative of German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) Nicola Julia Ullisch has visited the presidium of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences to explore the ways of further establishing relations with the Azerbaijan and German scientific research institutes, and conducting joint teacher and specialists` experiences.
Giving detailed information about the activity of DAAD, Ms Ullisch stressed that the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) was the largest funding organization in the world, supporting the international exchange of students and scholars.
“Since it was founded in 1925, more than 1.5 million scholars in Germany and abroad have received DAAD funding. It is a registered association and its members are German institutions of higher education and student bodies. Its activities go far beyond simply awarding grants and scholarships. The DAAD supports the internationalisation of German universities, promotes German studies and the German language abroad, assists developing countries in establishing effective universities and advises decision makers on matters of cultural, education and development policy. In 2011, the DAAD funded more than 70,000 German and international scholars worldwide. The funding offers range from a year abroad for undergraduates to doctoral programmes, from internships to visiting lectureships, and from information gathering visits to assisting with the establishment of new universities abroad,” she added.
According to her, Azerbaijan has been included in the German Academic Exchange Service`s GO EAST program for the first time in 2011. Each year, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) awards numerous scholarships as well as promoting academic exchange. Academic ties include partnerships between Cologne University of Applied Sciences and the Azerbaijan Technical University in Baku and between the University of Bonn and the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences. A DAAD academic teacher is helping to improve the quality of German teaching in Azerbaijan. The Goethe Institute makes regular donations of books and equipment to Azerbaijani universities.
Town twinning arrangements exist between Sumgait and Ludwigshafen and between Baku and Mainz as well.
From Azerbaijani side, the meeting was attended by ANAS Vice President, academician Ibrahim Guliyev and director of the Institute of Information Technologies, member of ANAS Rasim Aliguliyev.
