AZERBAIJAN NATIONAL JUDO TEAM RANKED FIRST IN EUROPEAN JUNIOR JUDO CHAMPIONSHIP HELD IN BAKU
On the first day of the tournament, August 23, in the 50 kg weight category among juniors the gold medal was won by Vaja Gvildiani /Georgia/, silver medal - by Nijat Shikhalizadeh /Azerbaijan/, bronze medal has been shared by Tomaaz Kovalski /Poland/ and Gegorgian Gevornenko /Ukraine/. In the 55 kg weight category Elman Nasibov /Azerbaijan/ became a winner, Dan Fasiye /France/ ranked second, while the third place has been secured by David Asumbani /Georgia/ and Georgiy Drevot /Ukraine/. In the 60 kg weight category Elshan Karimov /Azerbaijan/ won the gold medal, Kurban -Haji Musayev /Russia/ gained silver medal and Ishtvan Zhu /Hungary/ and Aleksey Staushi /Bulgaria/ both shared the third place. In the 66 kg category Tariel Zintiridis /Greece/ became a winner of the competition, Seymur Rzayev /Azerbaijan/ won silver medal, while Julien Boyguillion /France/ and Loseb Kumlaindze /Georgia/ shared the third place.
Among women, in 40 kg weight category Anna Vasilevich /Ukraine/ won gold medal, Sonya Bode won silver medal and bronze medal was won by Mikaela Ginter /Great Britain/ and Jelena Milutinovich /Serbia and Montenegro/. In the 44 kg category gold medal was won by Burchu Gokez /Turkey/, silver medal - by Rebekka King /Germany/, bronze medal by - Lilla Totg /Hungary/ and Andrea Katuna /Romania/. In the 48 kg weight category Anna Mazunina /Russia/ has become a European champion, second place was won by Oksana Rebonok /Ukraine/, the third place - by Kittu Bravik /Holland/ and Sandrine Kastaldo /France/. In the 52 weight category Jasmine Van Spankeren /Holland/ ranked first, Elodie Puget /France/ - second, the third place was secured by Julia Bezko /Estonia/ and Joanna Rogik /Serbia and Montenegro/.
On August 24, on the second day of competitions, in women’ section the winning places have been distributed as follows: in the 57 kg category gold medal was won by Ramila Usubova /Azerbaijan/, silver medal - by Maksine Fricher /France/, bronze - by Laura Dana Mustetea /Romania/ and Joanna Chesario /Portugal/. In the 63 kg weight category Eszer Stam /Holland/ became a gold winner, silver winner - Laura Aerts /Belgium/, bronze winners - Natalia Malikova ans Andrea Wolf /Germany/. In the 70 kg category the first place was won by Abbia Kunningham /Great Britain/, second place - Janina Woldhausen /Germany/, third place - Alexandra Matasaru /Romania/ and Nina Kusharskaya /Poland/.
In the boy’s section the winning places have been distributed as follows: in the 73 kg weight category Levan Peradze became a European champion /Georgia/, the silver medal was won by Teymur Alikhanov /Azerbaijan/, bronze - by Alexander Salinchean /Romania/ and Gergela Jeman /Hungary/. In the 81 kg weight category Milan Randle /Slovakia/ ranked first, Tamerlan Urtayev /Russia/ - second, Anar Aliyev and Georgiy Demetrashvili shared the third place. In the 90 kg category the first place was secured by Gerve Fishot /France/, the second place - by Murad Idachev /Georgia/ , the third place - by Dominik Geyzer /Germany/ and Vladimirs Osnaks /Lithuania/. In over 90 kg weight category Kurille Maret /France/ became a winner of the championship, Alex Guiniashvili ranked second, bronze medal was won by Mehman Novruzov /Azerbaijan/ and Ruslan Kozayev /Russia/.
Having won 8 medals (three gold, three silver, and two bronze) Azerbaijani National Team has won the first place at the championship. French team has ranked second with 6 medals - two of each kind. Having won six medals (two gold medals, one silver, and three bronze) Georgia has secured the third place.
After the awarding ceremony, President of the Azerbaijan Judo Federation Fizuli Alakbarov handed over the flag of the championship to the leader of Judo Federation of Holland where the next European championship is going to take place.
