AZERBAIJANI REPRESENTATIVE PARTICIPATES IN 54TH SESSION OF UN COMMISSION ON STATUS OF WOMEN
Baku, March 12 (AZERTAC). Chairwoman of the State Committee for Family, Women and Children problems Hijran Huseynova attended the 54th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women held on March 1-4 in New York.
The session dealt with 15-year review of the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action and the outcomes of the twenty-third special session of the General Assembly.
Huseynova addressed the “roundtable” on the Millennium Development Goals.
Huseynova touched on the outstanding tasks to achieve Millennium Development Goals and Azerbaijan government`s support for refugees and IDPs. She provided information about the health, education, culture, environment projects implemented by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, which is led by UNESCO and ISESCO goodwill ambassador, MP Mehriban Aliyeva.
She also reported on the progress achieved since the UN General Assembly`s 23rd session titled “Women 2000: gender equality, development and peace for the twenty-first century”. Huseynova told of the ongoing reforms in Azerbaijan. She pointed out President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev pays a special attention to gender issues. The committee chairman also drew the participants` attention to the state of IDP women.
On the sidelines of the session, Hijran Huseynova met with Italy`s Minister For Equal Opportunities Mara Carfagna, President of the Mexico National Women`s Institute María del Rocío García Gaytán and President of the Cuban Women`s Federation Ana Milagros Martinez .
