Baku hosts conference on “Policy Guidelines for Energy Efficiency in Buildings in Public Procurement”

Baku, December 13 (AZERTAC). Center for Strategic Studies under the President of Azerbaijan with support of the OSCE Office in Baku has today organized a conference on "Policy Guidelines for Energy Efficiency in Buildings in Public Procurement".
The participants were greeted by Director of SAM Dr. Farhad Mammadov and Mr. Ramiz Rzayev of the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Azerbaijan. In his opening remarks, Dr. Mammadov stated that the issue of energy efficiency is relevant around the globe, including Azerbaijan. According to Mammadov "SAM have already organized a number of events on this issue and the organization would continue to work in this direction". He stressed that the government pays special attention to the development of the energy sector. In particular, the government prioritizes the use of alternative energy resources. "However, it is unfortunate that the population does not pay enough attention to the issue of energy efficiency," added Mammadov.
Head of the OSCE Office in Baku Ambassador Koray Targay addressed the conference. "We pay a special attention to this area," continued Ambassador Targay, by having underlined that today Azerbaijan fully meets its domestic energy needs. "The Azerbaijani government has taken important steps towards energy efficiency."
He added that the country is in the process of establishing production of alternative energy resources.
Director of Center for Cleaner Production and Energy Efficiency Prof. Nariman Rahmanov stressed the importance of rational energy use, taking into account Azerbaijan's economic development.
The OSCE's report on the analysis of government policies to improve the rational use of energy in public buildings was successfully presented during the conference. The report contains specific proposals with particular relation to enhancement of energy efficiency in supplying the newly constructed public buildings.
