COE COMMITTEE OF REPRESENTATIVES DISCUSSES QUESTION BY MEMBER OF AZERBAIJAN’S DELEGATION TO PACE
The Council of Europe Committee of Representatives discussed Wednesday the written question entitled “The fifteen years of Shusha’s occupation”, which was addressed by member of Azerbaijan’s delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe Ganira Pashayeva to the COE Committee of Ministers.
Azerbaijan’s permanent delegation to COE managed to include the document in the agenda for discussions at the Committee of Representatives meeting.
The document says that Azerbaijan’s territory Shusha was occupied by Armenia 15 years ago.
Azerbaijanis constituted 90 percent of Shusha’s then population, and during the Armenian attack on the city, 400 people were killed, 600 injured, 2,220 became internally displaced persons, 279 historical places, 44 schools and other cultural monuments were destroyed.
The Council of Europe members-states said they unanimously recognize Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity and support its stance on settlement of the conflict.
Armenia’s permanent representative failed to answer to legally based arguments of the Azerbaijani side, and said his country will prepare a formal response concerning the issue.
