Évian-les-Bains, January 10, AZERTAC
Press reports about the closure of the garden with the statue of Khurshidbanu Natavan and the intention to remove the monument do not correspond to reality, the general department of the Évian-les-Bains mayor`s office told AZERTAC.
It has been reported that an act of vandalism occurred in Évian-les-Bains concerning the statue of the prominent Azerbaijani poetess Khurshidbanu Natavan, with stone slabs were broken.
“The mayor`s office is seeking specialists to undertake the repair and clean the statue, along with the restoration of the stone plaques bearing the garden's name. Following the restoration process, both the memorial plaques and the statue will remain in their places," the statement says.
The mayor's office also reported that the mayor of Évian-les-Bains has contacted the police regarding the vandalism of the statue, "We believe that this statue reflects the cultural unity between the two nations and serves as a cultural bridge between peoples. It is the garden of our city and it was gifted to us."
The statement from the mayor’s office of Évian emphasized that Ismayilli is considered a twin city, and noted: "Today, the situation has taken on a political context, but we are not politicians, and our city supports and will continue to support relations with our twin city. If a delegation from Ismayilli arrives tomorrow, we are ready to receive them. Unfortunately, our relations with Ismayilli have remained at the level of exchanging holiday greetings. We have not communicated since the onset of the coronavirus pandemic."
The article written in French completely distorted what was said during the municipal council meeting. After this, the issue was raised but the mayor’s office rejected all such proposals and stated that both the garden and the statue would remain, and the friendship would continue. "The press reports that this garden will be closed, but we did not say such words, and this news does not correspond to reality," emphasized the statement.
