Paris, 19 November (AZERTAC). On 17 November, a symposium devoted to the 100th jubilee of the world known scientist, one of the first presidents of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan Musa Aliyev, was held in UNESCO, in framework of the “Day of Azerbaijan”. As provided, Musa Aliyev has special merits in development of the geological science in Azerbaijan.

Speaking at the Symposium, Deputy Prime Minister of Azerbaijan Elchin Efendiyev has underlined that celebrating in UNESCO of the 100th anniversary of such outstanding scientist as Musa Aliyev, represents great value for Azerbaijan. Musa Aliyev has made special contribution to development of the Azerbaijani science. He was born in one of the most ancient cities of the East, in the homeland of poets and scientists, in Shamakhi, a city with big scientific and cultural traditions.

Invited in 1940 to Moscow, Mr. Efendiyev said, Musa Aliyev, held a high post during this period, and has played great role in providing the Soviet army with fuel. After the war ended, Musa Aliyev headed the industry development in Azerbaijan, during the period when he led the Academy of Sciences, made huge efforts for development of science in Azerbaijan.

The Deputy Prime Minister underlined that thanks to the care shown by the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev for science, the close cooperation between UNESCO and Azerbaijan, promoted by the head of Heydar Aliyev Foundation, the UNESCO and ISESCO Goodwill Ambassador Mehriban Aliyeva, the jubilee of the outstanding Azerbaijani scientist is marked in the authoritative international organization.

The UNESCO deputy general director on natural and exact sciences M. Erdelen has told that it was great honor for him to participate in this action, devoted to Musa Aliyev, an outstanding scientist and public figure. He reminded Musa Aliyev`s contribution to geological and paleontology sciences, noting his special merits in creation on the Caspian of the legendary Oil Rocks 60th anniversary of which has been celebrated recently.

The UNESCO deputy general director expressed confidence that future generations will always esteem Musa Aliyev`s memory.

Addressing the Symposium, the Vice-President of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan Akif Alizade, the director of the Seismological Centre of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan Ikram Kerimov, representative of French company “Тоtаl” Kathryn Grasse have noted that Azerbaijani scientist has made huge efforts in investigation and operation of new oil deposits. Grand-daughter of academician Musa Aliyev Jamila Pashayeva told that she was very glad with carrying out in UNESCO of the jubilees of her grandfathers - Mir Jalal Pashayev and Musa Aliyev. To this end, on behalf of the family she has expressed gratitude to President Ilham Aliyev and the president of Heydar Aliyev Foundation, UNESCO and ISESCO Goodwill Ambassador Mehriban Aliyeva.
