OIC SECRETARY GENERAL CALLS FOR ELIMINATION OF TENSION BETWEEN THE WEST AND ISLAMIC WORLD
Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) Ekmeleddn Ihsanoglu addressing the United Nations called for taking effective measures to eliminate the tension between the West and the Islamic World.
Ekemeleddin Ihsanoglu said to the Anatolian Agency of Turkey the major topic of his meetings with the heads of states and governments of 60 countries during the 62 session of the UN General Assembly in New York was strengthening of dialogue between civilizations. At his words, also were discussed the “caricature crisis” and the issues of mutual understanding among the religions in the meeting of foreign ministers of the OIC member countries in New York. Freedom of word and expression never can be used to insult the religions, he stressed. OIC is very sensitive in this question and will struggle against all actions towards the Islam. The Organization resolutely requires the UN to hold active position in this matter.
OIC Secretary General with great pity added that currently Islam-phobia is increasing in Europe and insult of the sacred feelings of the Moslem is frequently observed. This can threaten peace and security in world.
