President Ilham Aliyev: We intend to sign new contract on Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli
Baku, September 6, AZERTAC
“In a few days we intend to sign a new contract on Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli field. We will extend our activities in the field until 2050. This once more shows that Azerbaijan has enormous oil deposits,” said President Ilham Aliyev as he attended the launch of the state-of-the-art Khankendi subsea construction vessel in Baku.
“I recall that when the Contract of the Century was being signed in 1994, those who didn’t liked us, both inside and outside the country, said that Azerbaijan doesn’t have sufficient oil reserves. They said Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli does not have much oil, that there is no need for construction of any kind of pipeline because the pipeline will remain empty.” “But now it has been for almost twenty years that we produce oil and gas from Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli. We started producing oil and gas here in 1997. After twenty years we are signing a new contract so that we can produce the necessary levels of oil until 2050. This is both an answer to those pessimistic and negative views and, at the same time, it shows that our country has a great energy potential,” the head of state added.
