Today, Ukraine is the big industrial and agrarian state with the territory of 603,7 thousand sq. km and population of about 50 million. It is situated in the Eastern Europe and possesses the great scientific and technical, industrial and agricultural potential.
For 13 years of independence, Ukraine, according to I. Kyzima, could form all the organs of government and overcome the consequences of misbalance of economy, get rid of the most powerful nuclear-missile arsenal, excessive military-industrial establishment and reorient its industry to output of competitive, high-quality production. The economy is based on the metallurgy, chemical, food and agrarian industry.
One of the priorities of bilateral relations with other countries is the overall development of relations with GUUAM countries, especially, with Azerbaijan. Ukraine needs energy resources while Azerbaijan possess them. Ukraine can assist in developing Azerbaijan’s economy. According to the Ukrainian diplomat, the friendly relations between Azerbaijan and Ukraine are successfully developing. Azerbaijan and Ukraine have signed 74 interstate and intergovernmental agreements.
President of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev and President of Ukraine Leonid Kuchma have made a great contribution to developing and strengthening Ukraine-Azerbaijan relations. The signed documents create conditions for further expansion and deepening of bilateral cooperation.
On June 3-4, 2004, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev paid an official visit to Ukraine and held some meetings in which the sides assessed the present Ukraine-Azerbaijan relations as very high-level.
