Baku, August 16, AZERTAC
The members of the diplomatic corps and military representatives accredited in Azerbaijan have today visited the country’s Aghdam district.
The delegation included some 100 diplomats and servicemen from 45 countries and 12 international organizations.
Assistant to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Head of Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration Hikmat Hajiyev informed the diplomats on the ground about the Aghdam-Khankendi road, noting that the road is open for use.
He said that during the Soviet era, under the supervision of Great Leader Heydar Aliyev, a railway, stretching towards Khankendi, had been constructed parallel to the Aghdam-Khankendi road.
Hajiyev further noted that following the liberation of Azerbaijani territories, on the instructions of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev the construction of roads was the first task implemented in the area. He said that the construction of the roads is also underway in the areas, where Armenians living in Karabakh are resettled, noting that the construction of the highway and railway towards Armenia is also underway. “This once again shows that Azerbaijan is building roads, not walls and barricades.” “Azerbaijan considers the Aghdam-Khankendi road as an integral part of integration process of Armenian residents living in Karabakh into Azerbaijan’s political, social and economic life,” Hajiyev emphasized.
The diplomats were also informed about Azerbaijan’s proposal to use the Fuzuli-Shusha road for transportation of cargo to Armenian residents living in Karabakh. “However, straight after Azerbaijan’s proposal, Armenians started installing concrete barricades on the road,” the Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan mentioned.
“Azerbaijan considers Armenian residents of Karabakh as Azerbaijani citizens. Azerbaijan is ready to ensure the rights of Armenian residents in accordance with the Constitution of the Republic of Azerbaijan. However, in response to Azerbaijan’s goodwill steps, Armenia hinders the peace process through the separatist regime it established in Karabakh,” Hikmat Hajiyev underscored.
