NEW KULEVI OIL TERMINAL OF AZERBAIJAN OPENED IN GEORGIA
The new Kulevi Oil Terminal (“Black Sea Terminal”) of the Azerbaijan State Oil Company was opened in Georgia on 16 May.
The opening ceremony was attended by a delegation headed by the Prime Minister of Azerbaijan Artur Rasizade, who stated “opening of oil terminal in Kulevi would promote development of Azerbaijan and Georgia, strengthening of the friendship between the two countries and is a token to implement the new projects for the welfare of both countries.”
Speaking at the opening ceremony, President of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Rovnag Abdullayev said that it will be the largest oil terminal in South Caucasus. It will be equipped with modern management systems. “The Terminal is one of the achievements of the oil strategy of the nationwide leader of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev “, he emphasized.
Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili welcomed the ceremony participants, calling the event a significant day for Georgian-Azerbaijani relations. “All plans made between me and President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan, are being successfully implemented. Kulevi is one more example to prove that,” he said.
Mr. Saakashvili said that Georgia had become a corridor for Azerbaijan`s energy carriers to Europe. “Kulevi will become Georgia`s third sea gates, after Batumi and Poti”, he stressed.

As stated, the transshipment capacity of the terminal totals 10mln fluid cargo per year, including 2mln tons of oil, 3mln tons of diesel fuel and 4mln tons of fuel oil.
Capacity of the reserve tank of the terminal is 320,000 cu m. There are plans to increase the capacity of the terminal up to 20mln tons and the reserve capacity up to 380,000 cubic meters.
