Raging elements wreak havoc in Poland
Baku, July 15 (AZERTAC). Storms and tornadoes have targeted towns in central Poland, with hurricane winds uprooting hundreds of trees and destroying dozens of homes in the Mazowieckie and Lodz provinces.
Firefighters report of severed power lines. Crisis centers have been opened in affected areas. Prime Minister Donald Tusk has left for the devastated regions to assess the situation on site.
The elements wreaked particular havoc on Byalachuv, Zharnuv, Paradyzh and Opocno gminas, reported a fire department spokesman Arkadiusz Makovsky. According to him, about 130 houses were damaged, with 40 of them stripped of their roofs. "High and low voltage power lines are damaged; the wind felled trees. Fortunately, there are no casualties,"- he added.
Local residents are trying to bring some sort of order to their homes before dark. Over 50 rescue teams are working in the affected villages. One woman died as a result of the onslaught of the elements. There is no information yet regarding other victims, reports ITAR-TASS.
