Anar Guliyev: Azerbaijan’s commitment to the global urban agenda is long-term and substantive
Baku, May 20, AZERTAC
We do not consider the "Baku Urban Award" as a national award with international guests, rather, we see it as a global award hosted by Azerbaijan. Its future editions will be open to all regions and all income groups, said Anar Guliyev, National Coordinator for WUF13 and Chairman of the State Committee on Urban Planning and Architecture, in his remarks at the event titled “The Baku Urban Award: Scaling Housing Solutions for Global Impact” held as part of the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku.
Anar Guliyev emphasized that Azerbaijan’s commitment to the Global Urban Agenda is long-term and substantive, noting that the country hosted COP29 and launched multi-sectoral initiatives for sustainable and healthy cities, including the Baku Sustainability Coalition. He also highlighted Azerbaijan’s co-chairmanship, alongside Somalia, of the UN-Habitat Intergovernmental Working Group on Adequate Housing for All.
He added that Azerbaijan is hosting WUF13 and has jointly established a permanent global instrument with UN-Habitat, reaffirming the country’s commitment to these initiatives and inviting global partners to join the effort.
