Canadian official: Construction of state-supported affordable housing projects holds great importance
Baku, May 20, AZERTAC
“The construction of state-supported affordable housing projects holds great importance,” stated Lindsay Neeley, Vice-President of Policy at the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC), during her speech at the Business Roundtable session held within the framework of WUF13.
She noted that Canada also faces serious challenges regarding housing affordability. According to her, a significant gap has emerged between market housing prices and citizens’ financial capacity, a problem that remains critical in many countries.
Lindsay Neeley emphasized that special importance is placed on mortgage insurance and attracting private investment to finance housing projects. However, she underscored that resolving the affordable housing crisis is impossible without state support.
She also noted that the housing supply shortage has reached a large scale, requiring the construction of a substantial number of new residential units annually to restore affordability. At the same time, she highlighted ongoing difficulties in attracting non-governmental financial resources into the sector.
