ECO Youth Forum held in Aghdam
Aghdam, July 1, AZERTAC
The Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) Youth Forum was held in the Aghdam district as part of ECO Week.
The forum’s main objectives are to engage young people from ECO member countries in regional dialogue, propose solutions to pressing issues, and influence decision-making through a set of recommendations.
Participants discussed topics including economic and trade cooperation, sustainability and technology, human development, and people-to-people dialogue.
The event was attended by around 50 young participants, representatives of government bodies, ECO officials, and experts from nine member states.
“The Youth Forum marks the first time such an event is being hosted in Karabakh. These events demonstrate Azerbaijan's commitment to a strong youth policy,” said Minister of Youth and Sports Farid Gayibov in his address at the ECO Youth Forum.
Highlighting the special attention and care President Ilham Aliyev extends to young people, the minister noted: “There are approximately 35 youth houses and over 100 youth organizations, funds, and centers actively operating across the country. We also organize international events. I hope that a meaningful document on youth policy will be signed at the end of this forum.”
“The ECO region is characterized by diverse cultures, economies, and societies, with young people making up 60% of the total population Emerging global challenges are significantly impacting the youth, with nearly 30% struggling to find employment and access to the labor market. Young people must be provided opportunities to develop the crucial skills needed for success in today's rapidly changing world. Strong technical skills, relevant knowledge, and literacy are essential in today’s job market,” said Asad Majeed Khan, Secretary General of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), in his address at the ECO Youth Forum.
He also addressed the challenges young women face in finding employment within the ECO region. “Political instability and conflict have a devastating impact, particularly on young people, leading to increased poverty and further exacerbating tensions. However, our countries share a rich history and common values. We must seize every opportunity to strengthen our connections, build bridges, and exchange experiences. This is part of our vision and an investment in the future,” he stressed.
The Forum then continued with a panel sessions.
The panel discussions ended with the establishment of the working groups by the youth, and with debates held across three areas - economic and trade cooperation, sustainability and technology, human development and people-to-people dialogue.
