Islamabad, Hilal Ahmad, July 27, AZERTAC
At least 10 people were killed and 30 others injured in two separate road accidents in Pakistan on Sunday.
According to police and rescue officials, eight people lost their lives when a passenger bus traveling from Islamabad to Lahore veered into a ditch on the motorway in Punjab’s Chakwal district. Initial reports indicate that eight passengers, including three children, died on the spot, while 20 others sustained injuries. The injured were taken to a nearby trauma center and local hospitals. Hospital sources said four critically injured passengers were transferred to a hospital in the capital for further treatment.
Rescue officials said the driver lost control of the bus after one of its tires burst on the Islamabad–Lahore Motorway (M2), causing the vehicle to plunge into a ditch. Police and rescue teams promptly arrived at the scene.
In a separate incident, a passenger bus traveling from Karachi collided with a truck on the M-9 Motorway in Sindh’s Jamshoro district. According to rescue officials, two people were killed and 10 others injured in the crash.
Fatal road accidents are common in Pakistan, often attributed to reckless driving, poor road conditions, inadequate traffic enforcement, and a general disregard for traffic rules.
