UN Assistant Secretary-General: Sometimes, high-quality and durable materials are not preferred in construction
Baku, May 20, AZERTAC
“2.8 billion people in the world live in places without adequate housing,” said Elizabeth Maruma Mrema, Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations and Deputy Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), during an event titled “The climate-housing nexus: Can we scale climate-resilient housing without deepening inequality or displacement?” held as part of WUF13.
According to her, addressing existing gaps in the housing market requires extensive research and a proper assessment of current challenges.
“Companies build houses at the lowest possible cost, overlooking long-term consequences. As a result, people living and working in these residential areas face various difficulties.
“Sometimes, they use non-durable materials in construction instead of high-quality and long-lasting building materials,” Elizabeth Maruma Mrema underlined.
