Baku, May 20, AZERTAC
Public-private partnership (PPP) can play an important role in the development of urban infrastructure and the formation of modern urban spaces in Azerbaijan, Srinivas Sampath, Director of the Water Resources and Urban Development Department of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), said in an interview with AZERTAC.
According to him, PPP mechanisms can contribute to improving service quality and operational efficiency, accelerating the implementation of infrastructure projects, fostering innovation and technology adoption, as well as attracting long-term private capital. He noted that, when used effectively and supported by clear planning and control mechanisms, PPP can be integrated into land-use planning and infrastructure development processes.
Sampath emphasized that the greatest potential of public-private partnerships is observed in several key areas. These include the development of areas around transport hubs and the creation of mixed-use developments with affordable housing, urban regeneration and redevelopment of industrial zones, the expansion of green and sustainable infrastructure, the introduction of digital technologies and citizen-oriented services, tourism development, as well as the improvement of municipal financing.
