British architect: I am honored to be invited to the jury of the Baku Urban Award

“The challenges regarding sustainable development and housing provision are directly tied to cities. Approximately 80 percent of global gross domestic product is generated in cities, which also account for 70 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions. Furthermore, the bulk of the expected 1.5 billion global population growth over the next 25 years will occur in urban areas. In this regard, solving global problems like climate change and inequality directly depends on the policies implemented within cities,” said renowned British architect Norman Foster in a video message addressed to the event titled " The Baku Urban Award: Scaling Housing Solutions for Global Impact," held as part of the 13th Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13).
The architect emphasized that city mayors, local government leaders, and civil society figures can drive positive change through sustainable urban planning and housing provision, which form the core philosophy behind the Baku Urban Award. "Therefore, I am honored to be invited as a member of the jury for the Baku Urban Award. I express my deep respect to the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) and the Baku City Executive Authority for hosting this very important event at such a high level," Norman Foster added.
