More than 1.1 billion people live in informal settlements, including slums and unauthorized constructions,” said Deena Khalil, Research and Advocacy Unit Manager at Takween Integrated Community Development, during the event titled “From Commitment to Impact - Advancing Quality of Life in Cities as One” held as part of WUF13.
“The situation has a serious impact on various aspects of people’s daily lives. People are now spending a larger share of their family income on housing costs,” Deena Khalil underscored.
