Luxembourg - richest country in EU

Baku, June 22 (AZERTAC). Luxembourg is recognized the wealthiest country in the European Union in terms of its gross domestic product (GDP) per capita.

According to the EU statistics office Eurostat, GDP per capita measured in purchasing power standard hits 283 points for Luxembourg in 2010, compared to the EU average - 100.

The Netherlands ranks the second with 134 points or one third more than in the EU on average, followed by Denmark with 125 points. Similalry, also Ireland and Austria make up TOP 5 of the most affluent EU countries with 125 points each.

The wealth of Luxembourg is partly explained with many people from neighboring France, Germany and Belgium commuting to Luxembourg, so they do make a contribution to the GDP but are not counted for the division of the wealth.

The average of 17 eurozone blc countries hits 108 points. To compare, the United States of America hit 146 points in 2009.
