OMBUDSWOMAN TAKES UP HOSTAGE AND CAPTIVE ISSUE WITH ICRC PRESIDENT
Azerbaijan’s Commissioner for Human Rights Elmira Suleymanova constantly keeps the situation of Azerbaijani captives and hostages in focus of her attention.
With Armenian media spreading false information about POW Samir Mammadov, Armenian side tries to prove that the POW ostensibly does not want to hold correspondence with his family.
Ombudswoman contacted with relevant government agencies and Samir Mammadov’s family and got necessary documents to prove that the reports coming from Armenia are false.
She also wrote a letter on this fact to President of the International Committee of the Red Cross Jacob Kellenberger.
The letter says soldier of the Azerbaijan Armed Forces Samir Mammadov was captured by the Armenian troops on December 24, 2006 but has not been released yet.
Moreover, Armenian side continues to hold Samir Mammadov violating norms of the international humanitarian law, in particular, Geneva Convention and Protocol additional to the convention.
Additionally, two insane civilians, Ashraf Jafarov and Anar Aliyev were taken hostage on June 30 and August 2 in the territory of the occupied Agdam and Tartar regions.
She asked İCRC President to make every effort to release the hostages.
