Pakistan and Iran reaffirm commitment to further broaden bilateral cooperation

Pakistan and Iran have reaffirmed their commitment to further broaden bilateral cooperation across diverse fields. This resolve was expressed during meetings between Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and his Pakistani counterpart Asif Ali Zardari, as well as with Pakistan’s Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif in the capital, Islamabad.
During his two-day official visit to Pakistan, President Pezeshkian visited both Lahore and Islamabad, meeting with senior Pakistani leadership. In Islamabad, the Pakistani President hosted the Iranian leader at the Presidency, where the two held a detailed meeting. Both sides reiterated their commitment to strengthening cooperation across a wide range of mutually beneficial areas and emphasized the importance of enhancing bilateral ties.
According to a statement issued after the meeting, the two leaders exchanged views on major regional and international developments and underscored the need for coordinated diplomatic efforts to prevent the escalation of conflicts and to promote peace, security, and stability in the region.
President Zardari expressed hope that President Pezeshkian’s visit would further solidify the brotherly relations between the two countries. Earlier, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif welcomed the Iranian President at the Prime Minister’s House.
During their talks, President Pezeshkian and Prime Minister Sharif discussed matters of bilateral, regional, and global interest. The Prime Minister emphasized the need to further expand the existing broad-based cooperation between Pakistan and Iran, particularly in trade, connectivity, culture, and people-to-people contacts.
Prime Minister Sharif noted that both Pakistani and Iranian leadership were eager to raise the volume of bilateral trade to $10 billion as soon as possible. Pakistan and Iran also signed 12 agreements and memoranda of understanding during the visit. Following their discussions, the two leaders addressed a joint press briefing.
President Pezeshkian thanked the leadership and people of Pakistan for their support during the 12-day war with Israel and commended Pakistan’s constructive role in advocating de-escalation, dialogue, and diplomacy for the peaceful resolution of disputes.
