PRESIDENT OF AZERBAIJAN ILHAM ALIYEV SEES HISTORICAL SIGHTS IN AMMAN
President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev visited the Citadel hill in Amman, Jordan on July 30.
The Azerbaijani Leader was met by Jordan’s Minister of Tourism Usama Dabbas in front of the Archeological Museum located on the Citadel Hill.
The Head of State got familiarized with the Museum, Hercules Temple, Byzantine church, ancient mosque and palace.
Director of the Museum said the museum’s collection includes artifacts dating back to all periods of history.
President Ilham Aliyev saw the monuments, works of art made of stone, glass and a variety of garments. There is a Byzantine church, palace dating back to the Umayyad caliphate, water tanks, mosques and shops. Exhibits dating back to the Paleolithic, Eneolithic, Neolithic and Bronze ages arouse a great public interest.
The President saw the works of the Islamic art including written works, money and adornments. He signed the museum’s guest book.
Jordan’s capital was called Omman initially. Romans renamed it Philadelphia. Later, Philadelphia was renamed to Amman during the Caliphate. Over 270 thousand people came to see the historical sights of Amman, of whom 70 thousand are from Arab countries.
