7th ECO MINISTERIAL MEETING ON TRANSPORT AND COMMUNICATIONS HELD IN ANTALYA
The 7th Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) Ministerial meeting on Transport and Communications was held Thursday in Antalya, Turkey, at the “Sheraton” Hotel.
A delegation headed by Ziya Mammadov, Minister of Transport, represented Azerbaijan at the meeting, which was also attended by representatives from Pakistan, Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
The meeting’s agenda included regional cooperation in the fields of railway, air, telecommunications and postal service, as well as creation of ECO Logistics Provider Associations Federation (ECOLPAF).
Also high on the agenda were discussions on Transit Transport Framework Agreement (TTFA), and the 1998-2007 Activity Program on Transport and Communication.
Speaking at the meeting, Ziya Mammadov stressed that Azerbaijan is actively involved in efforts to create new transport corridors, and is the major participant in construction of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway.
Turkish Transport minister Binali Yildirim spoke of the significance of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway project which he said will ensure peace and stability in the region.
Khurshid Anvar, Secretary General of the Organization of Economic Cooperation (OEC), said that in today’s conditions of globalizing economy, ECO member countries must enhance their transport cooperation.
The meeting ended with the signing of the Antalya Declaration.
