AZERI OMBUDSPERSON CALLS WORLD COMMUNITY TO SAY “STOP” TO ARMENIAN AGGRESSION
Human Rights commissioner of Azerbaijan Elmira Suleymanova called the world community, including international organizations and ombudsmen to say “stop” to 20 years-long Armenian aggression against Azerbaijan.
In a press briefing, Ms. Suleymanova highlighted Armenians` ethnic cleansing policy against Azerbaijanis which started in 1988 and resulted in the deportation of more than 200 thousand Azerbaijanis from their homes in Armenia, and the killing of the same number of people.
“As a result of this aggression, Azerbaijan`s 20 percent territories, including Nagorno-Karabakh and seven surrounding regions were occupied, ten thousands of Azerbaijanis were subjected to genocide and mass killings, one million people were driven out of these regions and became refugees and Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), thousands of villages, settlements, schools, institutes, social objects, historical cultural monuments were destroyed”, the ombudsperson stressed.
She said the world community recognizes Azerbaijan`s territorial integrity, adding influential international and regional organizations have adopted relevant documents condemning the Armenian occupation, and demanding unconditional withdrawal of Armenian forces.
Suleymanova also expressed concern over the holding of various “elections” and events in the so-called “Nagorno-Karabakh Republic”.
